Akon's Latest Single "Don't Matter" Scores Second No. 1 Hit
Akon (Aliaune Thiam) scores his second No. 1 Hot 100 hit on the album "Konvicted" as "Don't Matter" jumps 3-1 on the chart, where it is the fastest growing track at radio for a fifth week, according to Billboard.
Akon's sophomore album, entitled Konvicted, was released on November 14, 2006. Konvicted included collaborations with Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Styles P. Late August 2006, Akon released the single "Smack That" featuring Eminem, peaking at No. 2 in November after making what was then the largest jump (95-7) in the history of the Hot 100.
"Don't Matter" is the third single from Akon's sophomore album, Konvicted. It was released on January 18, 2007 in the United States. The song shows how Akon has been influenced by R. Kelly and Bob Marley. The single debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 on January 25, 2007 at number 79. The music video was released on February 9, 2007. In April 2007, the song became Akon's second number-one single in the United States.Akon has been charged for fan-tossing incident, according to a press release issued by Town of Fishkill Police Chief Donald F. Williams. The incident goes back in June, where Akon tossed a 15-year-old fan off the stage at KFEST. 'Kon was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, a misdemeanor and second-degree harassment, a violation. He is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Monday in Town of Fishkill Court for arraignment on the two charges, Williams said.
But it wasn't the boy whom he thrown that filed the charge. Abby Rosa of Delaware County, on whom the 15-year-old landed after Akon tossed him, retained an attorney and spoke to the Fishkill police department days after it occurred. Rosa said she suffered a headache and was later diagnosed with a concussion.
Williams said in the press release that charges were filed against Akon, "After an extensive investigation and consultation with the Dutchess County District Attorneys Office."

Akon took the show home during MTV Arabia's launch event in Dubai, making the full house, including the sheikhs, stood up at fever pitch. Read Tim Kash' report below:
"...And if [Ludacris' performance] wasn't enough, it was Akon's turn. At this point, the crowd was at fever pitch, and with a little coaxing, the full house (including the sheikhs) stood up as Akon took the show home. He certainly did his thing giving the Middle East a taster of what they can expect from him when he returns on tour in a few months. It was an awesome launch, bringing in a new era to the Middle East, with a vision to one day launch a new internationally successful music star from the region. If you had said that MTV would be launching a channel here 10 years ago, they would have said it was impossible. Not anymore!"
The show opened with UEA-based rap group Desert Heat, followed by Middle East's "answer to Justin Timberlake" Karl Wolf. Wolf then trailed by major boys, Ludacris, who performed "a mixture of new and old hits" and Akon, who gave a "taster" of his upcoming Middle East tour.
Akon and Ludacris were outside Dubai riding on camels! The two music magnate were caught in the middle of a desert as part of MTV Arabia launch, and by the by, this is their first appearance in Middle East. Bring me the goat's eyes!
Ludacris, Akon, plus rapper Karl Wolf and Emirates underground hip-hop band Desert Heat will launch the channel at a glittering Dubai show-case, in a pre-recorded show at midnight Saturday. But this time, no skin-baring or raunchy words being spoken.
"We will respect our audiences culture and upbringing without diluting the essence of MTV," Bhavneet Singh, managing director of emerging markets, MTV Networks International, says. "Everything will be tasteful." Abdullatif al-Sayegh, chief executive of Arab Media Group, says:"When we come to people's homes, we want to earn their respect." He explained that there will be "culturally sensitive editors going through content of the programming."
MTV Arabia will feature 60 percent international music and 40 percent Arabic music, along with local adaptations of the channel's popular non-music shows like The Dream and Pimp My Ride.
